I’m not gunna lie.
I grew up with Yankee Candles in my parent’s home.
Every season we had a new scent.
It was so exciting and so much fun as a kid to light the festive candles.
And it still is.
There’s something about those candles that just makes me feel all warm n’ cozy.
I have them here in my Manhattan apartment and they keep me feeling snuggly throughout the chilly weather.
So when I met the Yankee Candle folks recently, they asked me to create a few of my gluten-free recipes inspired by their new flavors.
Pumpkin….
Buttercream….
Icing.
Yes, that is one scent.
All that packaged into one candle.
I’m watching it flicker right now as it gives off the most amazing scent …
My apartment smells heavenly right now.
I’ve been known to eat this with a spoon.
So, watch out.
It’s that good.
And can be paired atop freshly sliced apples, pumpkin muffins, banana bread, zucchini bread and other holiday baked goods.
How will you enjoy this lil’ icing treat?
Get your spoon ready.
You’ll wanna try this baby.
Happy Pumpkin season.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Earth Balance Vegan Butter Sticks
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
- 2 1/2 cups powder sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/3 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. gluten-free almond extract
- 1 Tbsp. almond milk
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, whip butter until fluffy using an electric mixer. Slowly, add remaining ingredients for 2-3 minutes on medium-high speed.
-
Serve atop gluten-free pound cake, freshly sliced fruit such as baked apples and as a dip for gluten-free sugar cookies. Enjoy!
Did you grow up with Yankee Candles? If so, what are your favorite scents?
I know it’s not the right season exactly, but I made this icing for cupcakes for a friend’s birthday, and it’s so yummy. I can’t stop eating it.
Would it work to leave out the almond extract?
Yes!
Oh my gosh, this looks absolutely amazing. And dangerous. Frosting is my weakness. I always want the corner piece of cake so it has more frosted edges. I seriously would be in deep trouble if I made this frosting and had no one to share it with. I get the whole “eat it with a spoon” thing.
As good as this looks, I think I’m safer buying the Yankee Candle version.

Thanks Melissa; you are too funny! Hope all is well. Have a great weekend!
Is there a way to make this without sugars also. My granddaughter is restricted from sugar as well? Just curious. she also has to eat gluten and vegan free too.
thanks Joanne
Thanks Joanne; great to hear from you! I would try to use stevia and see if it works but I’m not quite sure if it will as I haven’t yet tried it in this recipe. Stevia is a great sugar substitute that is not made from any chemicals- you can purchase it at Whole Foods Market or health food stores. Hope this helps.
Have a great night!
Hello, Can this be made with real butter and etc?? I love the Yankee Pumpkin Buttercream candle. Yankee Candles are always right on the scent!! Thank you
You betcha; enjoy Glenda. I love the scent of Yankee Candles. They’re so yummy, aren’t they? Have a great night!
Is there no pumpkin in the icing? I thought Pumpkin Buttercream would have pumpkin in it. Just curious…thanks!
Yes, there is only 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin used in this recipe. Enjoy!
I am not seeing the pumpkin in the list of ingredients.
Sarah,
Thanks; there is 1/2 cup canned pumpkin used for this recipe. Hope you like it!
Pumpkin Buttercream Icing….Whatttt?!?! I love pumpkin and I love buttercream! I have to try the recipe, YUM!
I agree…I love the scent of autumn. Crisp, leafy, apple, pumpkin, cinnamon. I could go on forever. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Nothing better than spending quality time with the family playing games, drinking hot cocoa, and being thankful for each other. Now, I need to buy one of the candles too!
It’s delish….I can’t wait to hear how you like this recipe! I agree; you said it perfectly. That is exactly how I love spending the Autumn season. Love it. Thanks Nizzy!
Never been a big candle person – until I discovered a butterscotch scent one. Yes please! 🙂
Looks lovely. I made a gluten-free pizza crust with zucchini the other day and thought of you! (I still like the “regular” crusts though 🙂 ).
Awe; thanks darling. Great to hear from you. I bet the butterscotch candle smells amazing. Yummy!
