odacite

Odacité. This incredible beauty brand has CHANGED my life. Seriously. Growing up and throughout my 20’s I used facial moisturizer because I was too scared to use oils on my face because I had such bad acne as a kid/teenager. Has anyone else had that fear? I feel like every woman I know was scared to death of using oils. But now, since I’ve been using Odacité the last few years, my skin glows and I will never ever ever go back to using moisturizers. Ever. That’s how good Valerie’s products her. I admire her work and her passion for helping people heal through non-toxic skin care. I also admire her story, how she healed herself and how she launched an uber successful, gorgeous brand to help all of us get that fabulous glow back into our skin.

Valerie Grandury, the founder of Odacité is incredible. She is a breasts cancer survivor and wrinkle fighter! She was born and raised in Paris and lives in Los Angeles. Her wake up call was breast cancer and she realized that if she wanted to heal, she needed to change everything. She quit her job, went back to school to learn how to heal her body and set off to remove all the toxins from her life. She wanted efficacy and purity with her skincare routine and she started blending custom-made skincare for private clients and herself. When word spread and demand grew, Odacité grew and people worldwide use her incredible products. She marries the best of two worlds luxurious French skincare & green California living and I’m so excited to chat with Valerie today.

Enjoy!

AV: What inspired you to start Odacité?

Ten years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and told than my chances of survival at 5 years were very low. Once I passed the panic, I realized that cancer was an opportunity for me to change every thing, to dare like I never did before. I quit my job in the film business, went back to school to become a health and wellness coach, adopted a raw vegan diet, started yoga and mediation daily and became passionate about removing toxins from my life. The good news is that against all the odds, I’m still here 10 year later and cancer free.

It is through this healing journey that I realized the toxicity of personal care products. There are over 10,000 chemical ingredients used in personal care products, some of which are known to be carcinogens, toxic to the reproductive system and hormone disruptors. Cosmetic ingredients do not remain on the surface of the skin, in fact they are designed to penetrate, and they do. Studies have found many cosmetic ingredients in human tissues, including Phthalates in urine, preservatives Parabens in breast tumor tissue and fragrance components in human fat.  Once you know that is easy to understand that the first place you want to green your life is your bathroom.

We French take skincare very seriously; it is all about research, luxury, perfect penetration and results. I wanted my French skincare without an ounce of toxins, not finding it I decided to create it.

AV: What don’t people realize about your brand? What would surprise them?

The name Odacité is a French play on Audacity, the audacity to redefine skincare. O because it is organcic, also the symbol of the earth and an ode to women, é at the end because I’m French.

AV: What has been a major turning point for you in your journey as an entrepreneur?

Getting into Colette in Paris. Colette is the most amazing concept in the world, always ahead of the trend, when they select your brand you know you are on to something unique and special.

AV: What is your favorite Odacité product and why?

That’s a hard one, a bit like Solomon’s choice. If I had to choose only one on a deserted island- because I’m all about antiaging – I would go for my 15% Vitamin C serum, An Autumn on the World. It pairs extraordinaryf hydration with the collagen boosting properties, giving your skin the supports it needs to stay plump and healthy.

AV: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?

Meditate.

AV: What’s a typical day in the life?

I travel 6 months of the year, the rest of the year I try to have a very steady schedule that allows me to stay healthy and handle the stress that can come with running a company and spending so much time on airplanes. In order to stay on my path I actually schedule my “healthy” time in my calendar.

Morning

Wake up 5:30 AM drink 12 oz warm water with lemon juice.

Rinse my face with water, apply Deep Hydration masque before I go hiking with the dogs. This infuses my skin with optimum hydration for the day.

5;30-6:30 AM Hike with the dogs in beautiful Topanga Canyon.

6:30: Before I get in the shower, I exfoliate on dry skin with Jojoba Beads Exfoliant,  rinse in the shower. I’m very French on this I don’t believe in harsh exfoliation like peels, burning products, microdermabrasion, on a long term they create more harm than good. I believe in consistent gentle exfoliation as this will work on longevity of the skin.

Apply Night Time Repair Serum (after 50 I believe that using a night cream during the day is a great idea.) Depending on what my skin needs will add 2 drops of one of my Serum Concentrates to address the specific needs of the day.

7:00 – 8:00 AM  Breakfast – normally a smoothie – and go through my inbox answering emails.

8:30 AM Arrive in the office – Day at the office & meetings, if it is too crazy I will go sit in my car and mediate for 20 minutes.

6 PM Aerial yoga 2xweek, on the other days when I get home I do 30 min of restorative yoga to wind down.

7 PM Dinner always vegan, in the winter 50% raw in the summer 80 % raw.

EVENING Wash with my Rejuvenating  Crème Cleanser to remove all surface impurity without disrupting the delicate oil balance of the skin.Mix 2-3 drops of my 15% vitamin C serum Autumn On The World into my Night Time Repair Serum, apply all over face.

AV: What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty is as much an inside job as an outside job, it is about feeling well in your skin. finding your passion, being yourself, eating well so your energy shines and use only natural products so your skin can radiate with a fresh healthy glow.

AV: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Life is not a problem to solve, it is an adventure to experience.

AV: Who’s the person that has influenced you most?

I have many role models, but I have to say my Mother and two grand-mothers are my biggest inspirations. Three extraordinary women who taught me to dare no matter what people may say. They also made me understand that while we don’t choose what happens to us in life, we have the choice on how we respond to it. This choice is our power.

Of all the places you have traveled, what destination has become your most unforgettable memory and why?

I was recently in Kyoto, and had the chance to see the Golden Pavillon under the snow, it was probably one of the most profound experience of understanding what harmony with nature is. It was my first trip to Japan, and I came back fascinated by the their sense of refinement in every thing they do. The zen gardens really speak to my soul.

AV: How do you spend your time outside of work?

While I was born and raised in Paris, I’m at a moment in my life when I want to be in nature. I’m lucky to leave in a beautiful canyon between LA and Malibu, where I spend a lot of time hiking. We are also lucky to have the ocean, I walk on the beach every Sunday. When there is an interesting exhibition, I will spend time in museum, such a food for creativity.
