This weekend I decided to take a stroll down to Union Square where I visited the Saturday Farmer’s Market and purchased a vast array of organic vegetables and fresh flowers.
I should be a farmer…honestly, I just can’t get enough of Farmer’s Markets…I spent hours in Union Square wandering among the fresh dairy, poultry, vegetables, fruits, herbs and flours.
It was a gloriously sunny day here in Manhattan on Saturday and it seemed the entire city was in Union Square for the Farmer’s Market…
I couldn’t resist taking a snap shot of these beautiful tulips, I splurged and purchased myself a bundle to liven up my kitchen.
Do you enjoy visiting Farmer’s Markets? Do you have any in your area? Years ago, when I lived in Los Angeles, California, I would visit the Farmer’s Market every Saturday in Pacific Palisades…it was such a calming, relaxing way to start the day and I always make it a point to breeze through at least one market every weekend. Manhattan has so many incredible farmer’s markets, it’s hard to choose which one to visit, however, I’m always prepared with my walkin’ shoes and often hit up a few markets in one day!

GREAT STORY. OH YES BY THE WAY I ONLY USE CAPS AND I DON’T YELL.
WHEN I WAS YOUNG WE WERE PACKED INTO THE CAR AND OFF TO PURITY STORES FOR GROCERIES AND THEN TO FARMERS MARKET ON JUST OFF ALEMANY BLVD CLOSE TO THE DAIRY STORE AND GARRET’S
ICE CREAM AND THE OLD BAYSHORE WHERE GOODMANS LUMBER WAS.
MY MOM AND GRANDMOTHER’S WOULD BUY LUGS OF TOMATOES; STRAWBERRIES; APRICOTS, AND APPLES. WE ALWAYS HAD PINAPLE ON HAND FROM THE LOCAL STORE AS WELL, SO THE WAS LOTS OF CANNING AND HOMADE PIES ALONG WITH MY FAVORITE APPRICOT AND PINAPLE JAM NOT TO MENION THE STRAWBERRY JAM AND HOME MADE APPLE PIE. THERE WAS ALWAYS PLENTY OF GREENS IN THE TWO NEIGHBORING YARDS BETWEEN OUR HOUSE AND MOM THOMPSONS HOUSE..
NOW I GO TO THE FARMERS MARKET IN SONORA, CALIFORNIA. HOWEVER I GROW MY OWN STRAWBERRIES; CARROTS; RADISHES,
ALONG WITH THREE INDIAN PEACH TREES; ONE PLUM, AND ONE APPLE.
OH I LEFT OUT THE TOMATOES AND BELL PEPPERS…..
BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR I’LL KNOW IF THE CHOKES WILL SURVIVE THE
WINTER WITHOUT TO MUCH HELP…………
HOME GROWN JUST CAN’T BE BEAT.

If you ever go back to the farmers’ market in Union Square, check out Hawthorne Valley Farm. They have a dairy, meat, bakery, lacto-fermented veggies (the rye sauerkraut is so good), and it’s all organic and biodynamic. My favorite farm.
