This feature has been long in the making and it’s a very sensitive topic for me to talk about because my experience was so traumatic and I’d rather not look back at those dark days, however, I want to help those of you who are suffering and so, that is what this post is for. I’ve been wanting to write a post on Lyme disease treatment for many years now and haven’t been able to put all of my thoughts into words until now.

Lyme Disease Treatment

I wrote a little about Lyme Disease in My Battle with Lyme and in my Lyme Disease Treatment article but I wanted to take you deeper because I know so many of you are suffering from Lyme or perhaps you’re suffering from symptoms that don’t make sense yet but it could be Lyme Disease.

Yes, you’ll get a ton of false negatives for Lyme – I had false negatives for years until I finally learned about the right labs to use that actually give you an accurate reading of what’s going on and what bands you have. I’m not going to lie. Lyme is tricky. Very, very tricky. Everyone is completely different so what works for you may not work for another and what worked for me, may not work for you, but I do know this:

There are MANY things that you can do (and start doing today) to support your body’s detox pathways, your liver, your gut, to break through your biofilm, and relax your body back into the parasympathetic nervous system mode. All of these things when done together can make a HUGE impact on your overall health and lessen the body burden your body is under when you have a compromised immune system, GI system, nervous system, etc with Lyme.

What are the symptoms of Lyme Disease?

So, let’s start off talking about the symptoms of Lyme Disease. Here are a few, but they will differ from person to person since symptoms manifest differently in each of us.

  • Fatigue
  • Exhaustion
  • Joint Pain
  • Recurrent Rashes
  • Headaches
  • Numbness in Hands/Feet
  • Difficulty Concentrating
  • Anxiety
  • Foggy Thinking
  • Forgetfulness
  • Poor Short Term Memory
  • Neck Stiffness
  • Back Pains
  • Extreme Fatigue After Exercise

Surprisingly, you don’t need to get a rash to have Lyme disease. Only 20-40% of cases have a bulls eye rash and only a few people actually see a tick or a tick bite on their skin. The tick, in 15 minutes or less can infect the person with a ton of parasites, viral, fungal and bacterial organisms, all of which lead to serious medical issues, which I experienced. I remember feeling like I was crazy when doctors would find parasite after parasite after virus after yeast after fungus in my body. I was like…where the HECK is all of this coming from? How the heck is all of this inside of me. It was nuts and quite frankly, hard to believe.

What I didn’t realize that ticks don’t just transmit Lyme disease from Borrelia but they also transmit many other co-infections, as well, which are so complicated to treat. Most people, like myself, see hundreds of doctors with a host of systemic symptoms that occur throughout the body but each doctor gets a bunch of inaccurate lab tests from labs such as Quest and Lab Corp.

I’ve spoken about this numerous times before but you cannot use those labs to test for Lyme. They will give you false negatives. In my book, Eating Clean: The 21-Day Plan to Detox, Fight Inflammation, and Reset Your Body, I talk about the specific labs that you need to use to test for Lyme and ONLY use those labs. Trust me. It took me years to learn this and I would have saved myself so much time if I had known this a decade ago!

The crazy thing about Lyme is that many doctors don’t believe in it and they think you can just take an antibiotic for 2 weeks and then be done with it. This is very often insufficient because more treatment is needed to really knock it all out of you. Many of you know this already.

Something that really surprised me after I found out that I had Lyme was that anyone can get bit by a spider, lice, mites and mosquito’s and can get Borrelia because these guys carry the transmission of Lyme disease, as well. As I mentioned, there’s a whole slew of symptoms that can pop up with Lyme because once the tick borne disease has the opportunity to thrive inside of you, multiple things occur within your body, that cause your body to be severely fatigued and drained.

This is what makes it so hard to fight back and have enough energy to actually heal yourself. You don’t even have the energy to pick your head up from bed. That’s how depleted you feel. This is where a ton of other health issues start to pop up- seemingly out of nowhere such as:

What health issues come with Lyme Disease?

What supplements can you take to help with your Lyme Disease symptoms?

Here are a few of the supplements I took when I was dealing with Lyme Disease. I was on about 50-70 supplements per day and they were all timed but here are a few of them:

  • Artemisia
  • CQ10
  • Carnitine
  • Alpaha Lipoic Acid
  • NAC
  • Glutathione
  • Methylated Folate
  • Methylated B12
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotics
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D

I was also on Low Dose Naltrexone, but I never felt any different on that so I stopped it after being on it for a year. LDN can help regulate your immune system, pain and reduce inflammation, all of which come with a tick borne disease.

I also did the Byron White protocol, which helped me tremendously. I was on this for a few months and did very well on it. I had no herxing reaction.

I could not take antibiotics because when I tried Doxy, I ended up with Hairy Tongue, where my tongue turned black, meaning there was so much mold in my gut that my body was reacting. So, no antibiotics for me!

What lifestyle changes can you make to help with your Lyme Disease symptoms?

In terms of my lifestyle, I made many, many changes, some of which I still implement today. More about all of the below is in my book Eating Clean in great detail.

  • Infrared Sauna
  • Organic Coffee Enema (I had to do this 2x a day for 2 years because my die-off/herxing was so bad, I couldn’t get through my day without these).
  • Epsom Salt Baths
  • Eating 100% Organic Foods
  • Eating more detoxifying foods (dandelion greens, cauliflower, broccoli, arugula)
  • Eating more healthy fats (avocado, avocado oil, almonds, walnuts, almond flour, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts)
  • Removing gluten, dairy, soy, seafood, grains, sugar, corn, canned foods (because of heavy metals), processed foods.
  • Sleeping at least 7-9 hours per night in a dark, cool room.
  • Laying on my Biomat
  • Meditating
  • Drink Roasted Dandelion Root Tea to help detox your liver.
  • Slowing Down
  • Belly Breathing
  • Acupuncture and Other Forms of Energy Work Such as Massage, Muscle Testing, etc. (This was SO helpful! More on this to come!)
  • Detoxing my Personal Care Products (removing heavy metals from my deodorant, makeup, etc)
  • Removed Aluminum Foil and Use Parchment Paper instead.
  • Use a Shower Filter for showers and baths.
  • Use a Kitchen Sink Water Filter for all drinking water and washing dishes in your kitchen sink.
  • Had my Mercury Fillings in my mouth removed

It’s quite painful for me to talk about Lyme Disease treatment and write this feature so I’m keeping it short. Sometimes when I go back to these very, very dark days and think back to these traumatic memories, I get very upset and I don’t want to go there right now so this is all I’m sharing at this time.

Thank you for understanding.

More to come.

Lots of love.

xx

  1. Hello Amie,
Are all of your symptoms gone? Did it affect your thyroid function?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    1. Yes Gia; I am off thyroid medicine and I feel incredible. It took healing the physical, emotional and energetic layers of my body. It’s more than just food! I’m launching The Valpone Method program soon that discusses all of this online. Hope that helps.

      1. I have sourced my gut & Lyme issues back to first having a parasite infection from Mexico at 17, then appendicitis( with appendix removal surgery) now Lyme disease. I have had major symptoms and gut issues since the 90’s. It’s been a long hard road. I’m almost 7 years into treatment and still very sick. I’m 40 now, have tried everything under the sun for treatment and can’t seem to get better.
My heart goes out to all all who suffer♡

  2. Hi-I totally understand about an awful dark time. So sorry you had to go through that. I have been dealing with chronic lyme for years. It has attacked almost every system in my body. Thyroid, heart, appendix, digestive system…Currently I am dealing with Sibo and a lot of digestive issues. This all started after having my appendix out a couple years ago. I am going to try some of the things you have suggested. Hope to be at a place of healing some day also. So glad I found your site. Take care.

  6. Hi I was looking for the top best health blog and I found your site on this : (The 50 Best Healthy Food Blogs For Clean & Lean Eating) and I was reading your post and I must admit they really are correct in including this blog on the list. you have lots of amazing articles that are very informative. Great work!

    1. The best way to treat Lyme is to take teasel root on an empty stomach with a glass of water first thing in the morning..waiting at least an hour before eating breakfast. Then taking 6-8 drops of CBD oil per day and taking oil of wild oregano 4 drops once a day to break up the biofilm. In the afternoon take a good Turmeric tablet or capsule once per day and in the evening take a combo tincture of black walnut/ wormwood/ clove 8-10 drops per day. Drink lots of glass bottled water / filtered water and eat a lot organic veggies( raw is best) , eat wild Alaskan salmon 3 -4 times per week and eat organic pineapple or organic papaya fruits only…stay away from sugars, gmo foods, and alcohol.

  7. Thank you for sharing your story with Lyme disease. A few years back, I was improperly diagnosed & it definitely was a struggle, especially because I too have/had many of the symptoms you mentioned… I understand your frustration. Sending positivity your way!
