If you’re anything like me, you’re nervous about all the household cleaners under your sink- pretty scary chemicals and not so pretty ingredients.

We care so much about what we put into our bodies, so why not take a deeper look into what we’re using to clean our homes?  After all, a touch of the counter or the fridge or the sink will only leave toxic chemicals on your skin and end up being ingested into our bodies; this surely isn’t what I want floating around my body.  How about you?

The fix?  It’s easy to make your own green n’ inexpensive homemade cleaner with ingredients right inside of your pantry.

Not only will these cleaners save you a bundle at the store. (Yes I know we all love spending $30 at Target on miscellaneous cleaners and walking up and down those fun-filled aisles) but with a bit of baking soda, white vinegar, essential oils and lemon juice, you’ll be set for a sparking, fresh and non-toxic home.

Non Toxic Homemade Household Cleaners

For Fabric Stains:

Attack with lemon juice or white vinegar

For Ovens and Faucets:

Sprinkle baking soda over the dirty area; scrub with steel wool and warm water.  This will scour off dirt and raise the pH of the water, which helps remove chalky white buildup around your faucets.

For a Clogged Drain:

Pour ¾ cup of baking soda followed by ¾ cup of white vinegar, then cover and let sit for 15-20 minutes.  Flush the drain with 3 cups of boiling water.

For Windows and Counter Tops:

In a spray bottle, combine one tablespoon of white vinegar, 2 drops of essential oil (I like lavender) and a quart of warm water, squirt and wipe dry.  Vinegar is a mild acid that dissolves dirt, hard water deposits and soap scum.

For an Air Freshener:

Fill a mason jar ½ way with baking soda and 10 drops of essential oil (I used orange).  Poke holes in the top; close lid and let sit in any room of your home to soak up odors.

What’s your secret for a household cleaner?
