Sjogren’s Syndrome can happen on its own or in conjunction with RA. It’s an attack on the mucus-secreting glands, which reduces your secretions. You frequently feel it first in the salivary glands in your mouth and the lacrimal glands that secrete the tears in your eyes. Almost all of the patients with this syndrome are female.

Symptoms

  • Dry mouth or dry eyes
  • Dryness in skin, lungs, sinuses and digestive tract
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
  • Cognitive dysfunction
  • Fatigue

Request these tests from your integrative M.D.

  • Anti-SSA antibodies
  • Anti-SSB antibodies
  • ANA

Elevated levels of anti-SSA or anti-SSB are diagnostic for Sjogren’s.

Treatment

  • Ask your doctor about hormone balance
  • Ask your doctor about detoxing excess estrogens
  • Add 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed each day to prevent all the testosterone from turning into estrogen, which happens when you’re stressed
