And Now…For Some ‘Clean Eating’ Earth Day (and everyday) Lifestyle Tips…

As you all know, my food philosophy is ‘Clean Eating’ which resonates well with today’s ‘Earth Day’ celebration.  When I refer to ‘Clean Eating’ I am explaining a lifestyle way of eating instead of dieting and consuming processed foods.  I believe in eating foods in their natural state, a simple principle that our ancestors once followed and now I’m bringin’ it back as ‘Clean Eating’ is the way we should be…eating!

Consuming minimally processed foods such as whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes and healthy fats are as simple as the ‘Clean Eating’ concept gets.  We all know that whole grains, fruits and veggies are healthy fare, however lean proteins such as beans, legumes, eggs, tofu and animal proteins fed and raised without hormones are great options to add to your meal, as well.  Moreover, healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, flaxseed oil and cold-water fish such as salmon are fabulous ‘healthy fat’ options that can easily be incorporated into your meals and snacks.

Today and everyday, make it a point to read labels and ingredient lists on every package and when you walk into the food store, grab your basket and stick to the perimeter for healthy fare.  When reading labels and ingredient lists, remember the saying…”If your grandmother wouldn’t recognize it…don’t eat it.”  This is a great moto to live and eat by as if Mother Earth didn’t create it, you shouldn’t be eatin’ it!

So, get out there and pick up some veggies this week in celebration of Earth Day and the beautiful, natural and ‘clean’ foods that Mother Earth has given us.

Try adding a new fruit or veggie to your day…I assure you, you’ll enjoy the taste and get hooked on a new favorite…try a daikon radish or a purple cauliflower..how about white asparagus or a star fruit?  Have fun and experiment with new produce and before you know it, you’re ‘lifestyle’ of eating will be Greener and Cleaner in no time.

Happy Earth Day!
